*1980, Latvia. Bulats studies at the graphics department of the Art Academy of Latvia. He is a laureate of the International exhibition contest ‚Artsessio' and member of the artist group Artistence as well as of the Latgale Photography Association. *1970, Germany. Born in Hamburg on the day of Jimi Hendrix' death, produces obscure publications using the figurative imagery of comicbooks (DER GROßE MALSPAß, gentlyfication). He is part of the off-gallery linda (www.chezlinda.de) and founding member of the artist group 2025 (www.2025ev.de). He also likes to spin his old chicagohouse-records at clubs like the pudel.
*1980, Croatia. Dunja lives a double life between Portland, OR and a small island in the Adriatics. She studied visual arts in Croatia and in New York. Her comics are published in a variety of magazines and she was nominated for the prestigious Ignatz Award in the category Outstanding Comic. She illustrates books, makes collages, hangs out with Komikaze, self-publishes her EGO comics and has weird secrets. She has also played in various bands. Now from time to time she improvises with her friend Cody Brant and plays drums, jars, bells and heavily breathes into the microphone to record it onto tape for nobody else to hear.
*1962, Austria. Visual artist, has participated in exhibitions since 1991. Produces comics, drawings, collages and acryl paintings. Founded Tonto Comics in the year 2000 together with Helmut Kaplan. Since 2007 she is curator in the Forum Stadtpark Graz for Comic and related art. Her hobbies are producing video loops and animations and making music (git., voc.), currently playing in the band Extofita.
*19-666, Texas, France. Antivisual anartist living a double life between meat and printed matter using the figurative imagery of worst comix to win the big prize of Angoulshit festival 2012. Spermanga is first comix published by l'association that won the iroshima x-ray award (young talent special). Occasionally he drives the metacorporation called LDC and tries to become a musician by putting live noisy soundtrack on dirty animation films from the same firm.
*1972, Spain. Fermín is a self-taught comic artist who has published several books in Spain, France and the USA. His stories are mostly about everyday life, relations, searching and coincidences, everything mixed with a small dose of surrealism. Apart from comics, Fermín Solís has also made animated movies and music. He plays guitar and ukulele and is also fond of musical toy instruments. Currently he has no time to play with a band but he was playing in a rock'n'roll band called The Cave for five years.
*19??, Latvia. Some claim he is an old captain drinking rum for breakfast already, while others think it is the white stuff in their fridge. Who cares, as long as he makes interesting drawings...
*1981, Québec, Canada. Geneviève currently lives and works in the Pacific-Northwest region of the United States. She has been drawing comics fairly seriously since the age of fifteen when she started to participate in the Montréal fanzine community. In the last few years she has exhibited her drawings in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia. Geneviève Castrée has also toured the world as a musician. Her most recent project is called Ô PAON and has a new record due in September of 2010 called "Courses".
*1976, Spain. Self-taught DIY artist, runs the music-art non-profit punk platform Afeite Al Perro (Shave The Dog) and makes the graph-zine HAZ. Plays in punkderphonic feminist duo Humor Vítreo, in vocal duo BIKO, solo as Atomizador and in punk duo Pollas Muertas (Dead Cocks). Previously he played in post-hardcore band A Room With A View, psychedelic-grindcore-punk band Ensaladilla Rusa, folk-punk duo TETRIS and fastcore-pop band Campamento Ñec Ñec!. Besides being an obviously very active musician, gig organizer, music reviewer and artist, he also works as a teacher.
*1967, Austria. Helmut is a visual artist living and working in Graz, making drawings, objects, room and operation structures. In 1994 he founded Tonto, an independent label for music and later art comics. The label has produced over 30 music albums and a dozen comic anthologies. Of course Helmut also makes music himself - he plays the drums and has played in the bands "Fleischpost" and "Skin".
*1968, USA. John has been writing, drawing, and publishing minicomics, comics, and graphic novels for over twenty-five years. His celebrated self-published series King-Cat Comics, begun in 1989, has inspired a generation of cartoonists. He got his first guitar when he was 10, but didn't learn how to play it for many many years. His first band was a punk-noise-jazz combo called Bryce Hammer, since then he has played in Bryce Hammer, T.A.C., Go Figure, Pigstick, King Archie, Smile, MDMP, Popeye, The Ferns and Felt Pilotes.
*1980, Germany. Krimi doesn't make music, but her bio sounds like a song: „She was born, grew up, started to draw, went to school, got an education, was riding, starting, graduated, moved, currently she lives, likes to try things out, is working, freelancing, discovered her love, highly enjoys that, she won, she wants to become..."
*1977, USA. Thurber lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He publishes the comic book series 1-800-MICE and also works in film and animation. His work has appeared in Kramers Ergot, The Ganzfeld, and many other anthologies. From 2006-08 he played saxophone in Soiled Mattress and the Springs, and currently he performs "anti-matter cabaret" music as Ambergris.
*1942, USA. Miriam Katin and her family left Hungary for Israel after the Uprising of 1956, she served in the Israel Defense Forces as a graphic artist and moved to the USA in 1963. In 2006 her first graphic novel 'We Are On Our Own', which tells the story of her and her Mother's escape on foot from the Nazi invasion of Budapest was published by Drawn&Quarterly and received a lot of acclaim. Her husband is a professional musician and she herself also played piano and received in Budapest, as the times dictated, a very thorough music education and sang in the then new (1954) Radio children's choir.
*1982 Tampere, Finland. Roope is part of the Kutikuti studio in Helsinki. He publishes comics and drawings in Glömp, Kuti and NK and has made a book called Eläimiä (Animals) published by Huuda Huuda in 2009. Roope plays free experimental music with Avarus, Maniacs Dream and Pylon, and plays solo as Nuslux apart from that he runs the experimental music label Lal Lal Lal and organizes marginal music shows with a couple of friends.
*1990, Latvia. Sabīne just finished Rozenthal School of Art and is currently studying at the Art Academy of Latvia. She has adored comics for a very long time, but finds herself doing numerous other things such as oil painting, illustration, animation, acting, DIY fashion, photography and generally doing anything that requires making something new. *1971, Poland. Tomasz has drawn several comic books about Ratman and Nervolver and makes illustrations and comics for science fiction magazines among others. In1984 he played electric guitar in a punk rock band with his singing cousin, but recorded only one song on a tape recorder and destroyed the wardrobe during a rehearsal in his flat. In 1990 he founded a hip-hop band but had only two rehearsals, he was the scratching person and one of the other members today is the famous hip-hop musician DJ 600volt, while Tomasz is playing experimental music for his three cats.
*1982, France. Born in the banlieu of Paris. Graduated in 2006 from the Arts Déco in Strasbourg and then went back to Paris to work as illustrator and comic artist. He doesn't make much music, but music is even more important to him than comics. So he often creates comics about music; one already featured in kuš! was his interpretation of the Sea Song by R. Wyatt. With his current comics of Daniel Johnston's song he inspired us to make this musical issue.
*1981, Latvia. Maija is one of the most colorful artists in Riga. Her works which are often a mix of drawings, installations and animations have been featured at several exhibitions in Latvia and abroad. She also creates performances and had a band together with Verners Biters called "savādie aprīļa ķirši" (something like "strange april cherries"). Her work in this issue is a dedication to the Latvian band „Svešie" who had a short but memorable existence.
*1983, London. When Scott was born ‘Now that's what I call music' (or ‘Now 1') was riding high at the top of the UK album charts. Ten years later he received ‘Now 26' for Christmas, and he would listen to this double cassette over and over whilst drawing pictures of cavemen and wrestlers. He has been self publishing comics since 2007 and has also had work published in various anthologies and magazines.
*1986, Latvia. They already started to draw comics in the 6th grade but since their lives were so busy they took a long break up to now. Mārtiņš studies at the Latvian Art Academy and at the same time designs games and lots of other things. Oskars works as animator in an animation film studio and works out his brain. *1988, Latvia. He has never published any works before and is just starting out in the fields of illustration and animation, as well as storytelling in general. He likes mushroom soup, sometimes with sour cream.
*1983, Germany. Born in Göttingen, grew up in Imbsen and went to school in Hannoversch Münden. He meets his old friends there once a year to bowl. Currently he lives in Kassel, where he studied illustration and comics. Probably nobody knows the region between Göttingen and Kassel as well as him.
*1972, Italy. After a diploma at the Scientific Liceum Leonardo Da Vinci he went to Milan and got a degree at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 1995. He has worked as graffitist, drawing teacher for children, illustrator and currently makes a living as storyboard artist. But mostly he loves to draw and publish comics, so he founded the The Passenger - a very special cross-over magazine where movies become comics.
*1981, Estonia. Triinu graduated 2005 from Tartu Higher Art School and Estonian Academy of Arts (BA in painting). She makes vector and digital art as well as hand drawn artwork. Currently occupied with comics, digital graphics as well as with visuals (patterns and suchlike) and small videos.

She regularly takes part in exhibitions with pleasure and enjoys everything connected to art, but most of all she likes to dance, smile and read books. *1981, Latvia. Socially active artist from Riga, once in a while creating some scandals which catapult him onto the covers of the Latvian yellow press. He works in different fields of art such as painting, graffiti, photography or sculpture - often connected to the theme of death. He is also an active freakbiker, building his own crazy bicycles, with which you can see him cruising around the city.
* 1981, Latvia. Grew up in Ventspils and currently she is living and working in the Netherlands. Oļa is an interdisciplinary artist working in a wide range of media and co-founded the Oceans Academy Of Arts. Her drawings appeared in Kutikuti, Pictopia, Les Editions du 57, Kingsboro Press and a huge number of self-published zines as well as on covers of John Wiese, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Audio Dregs and Arbor albums and tapes.
*1979, the Netherlands. Johan is working as a freelance illustrator, 2D animator and animation-director. He does assignments for television programs such as Sesame Street and illustrates especially for children's magazines. Usually he doesn't draw comics, but for š! he made an exception.
*1982, Germany. Since she was born in the beautiful Franconian Forest quite a lot has happened. In 2006 she started to study illustration/comics and animation at the Art Academy Kassel and highly enjoys that.
* 1981, Spain. Attended the Fine Art School at UCM Madrid and studied illustration and typography in Kassel. Ignacio worked for a couple of years as a graphic designer and now focuses on illustration. It seems to be worth it, as he recently won the national contest for comics & illustration (INJUVE) in Spain.
*1968, Japan. Works as a comic artist and illustrator. Creates cheerful, happy and healthy pieces for teenagers and also strange and experimental pieces for maniac underground comic readers. Some of his works are published outside of Japan by the French publisher Humeurs and in English in the collection Secret Comics Japan. Hironori never uses a computer in his work, it's all hand drawn.
*1977, Latvia. Went to Rozentals Art School Riga and afterwards studied painting at the Art Academy of Latvia. He is quite famous in Latvia, as he worked since the year 2000 for the biggest Latvian daily Diena as a caricaturist, illustrator, and graphic designer. But he left on October 8th 2009 as Diena's management changed and now draws for citadiena.lv. He publishes his more personal comic strips on epictail.com
*1979, Finland. Lives in Helsinki and works in the Kutikuti-Studio. In 2009 she won the Fumetto comics competition, and we publish the winning contribution in š!#5 with the theme "after snowfall".
*1984, Germany. Born in Fürth in 1984 where she was named after an elephant from television. Now she lives in Kassel where she studies visual communication at the Art Academy. She wants to become an illustrator and comic artist and has already published a respectable number of interesting fanzines.
*1971, France. Léo is an illustrator and a comics artist. His drawings are published in the French press and the more personal works in particular in Le Dernier Cri. Some of his comics were also published in Strapazin.
*1984, Germany, studies visual communication at the University of Arts in Berlin. His comics have been featured in attractive German-speaking anthologies such as Blutt, PlusPlus and in the very beautiful Biografiktion which he founded together with Till Hafenbrak and Ana Albero.
*1977, Japan. Her first children's book ‘Doteraurus' was published under the name of Maiko Nozaki in 2005 and some new works of her are being published soon. Her comics have up to now been published in the biggest alternative Japanese comics magazine AX and also in the very beautiful UZO.
*1988, Lithuania. Yoshi lives in a squat in North London surrounded by kitsch horror, princessish junk and old Latvian magazines. Says she is drawing since her hand could hold a pen influenced by her older brother Eikantas (see last š!). Recently she graduated BA Hons Graphic Design-Illustration from Central Saint Martin's College of Art & Design, London and now sets up her own comix-zine.
*1978, Latvia. Lives in Gouda and recently graduated from Rotterdam Academy of Art, media and design department as an illustrator. She likes to draw on the back sides of the food boxes and she is sure that best cardboard you can use for drawings are from Pickwick tea boxes. Map the Crap is her very first comics and hopefully not the last.
*1980, Japan. Lives and works in Tokyo. Graduated master's course of print (wood cut and lithograph) at Tama Art University and is working as an illustrator (for children books) and comic artist. He is publishing the alternative comic magazine UZO and his work has also appeared in AX.
*1971, Hong Kong. Lai Tat Tat Wing is an independent comic artist based in Hong Kong. He received rave reviews and sales in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and most recently in France for his conceptual and experimental comics including: Picking Up A Pig Tale, Woody Woody Wood, Stand Behind The Island Line, East Wing West Wing and L'Enfer de Jade.
*1986, Belgium. Brecht Vandenbroucke lives and works in Gent. He recently graduated in the arts of Illustration at St-Lucas Gent. He loves to draw and look at illustrations and comics. He has participated in international group shows and created illustrations for various international zines and magazines.
*1968, Sweden. Marcus Nyblom is an illustrator and comic artist living and working in Stockholm. He co-founded the Comics Publishing House Kolik and works for Galago. His works have been published in different International anthologies and in 2007 his "Skissbok" (Sketch book) with drawings and comics from the last three years came out.
*1979, Switzerland. Patric Sandri graduated in illustration at the Art Academy of Lucerne. His works have been presented in different exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad. He lives in Zurich and works as an illustrator for several newspapers and magazines.
*1980, Norway. In 2008 he got his Master in Graphic Design and Illustration at Konstfack Stockholm. He is member of the artists collective Dongery which has publications with such crazy names like „what is hair?” His comics book „seks sultne menn” (six hungry men) won an award as best Norwegian comic book. His works are published in Swindle (really!), Glömp, Hjälp, Stripburger, Strapazin and several other international magazines.

Laura Kenins lives in Halifax, a small city that was taken over by hoards of Latvian hockey fans during the world championships two years ago, and works as a journalist when she's not drawing comics. She visited Kuldiga in 2009, where she saw a punk band from Belarus and no flying fish. She enjoyed her time there, even though she couldn't find anywhere to buy breakfast on a Sunday

*1985, Latvia. Lived two years in Scotland where he worked in a fish factory and was infected by the comic virus, which he thinks he will never get rid of. There he also made caricatures for a local newspaper and now back in Latvia he wants to infect more people with his virus which he actively spreads over the web. Currently he is drawing comics about the adventures of Milda who came down from the Latvian Freedom monument.

i would describe myself as visual terrorist. my approach to percepting visual is slightly bold n straightforward. if i drew a penis and chucked it in ur face, the primar effect is what i am in haunt for. a desired moment when mind thread stops before starting to knitt another conception is a no-thought-land i wish to dwell all my crations into. it is not about leaping, it is about how much u feel u are able to leap forward, braking free and opening wast fields for own inspirations and seeings. with this approach i wish to start my digital media course this year at art institute at Bournemouth, where i live and work at the moment////
Dzimis 1974. gadā Šveicē, ķēniņa kārtā sevi iecēlis pats, pats arī drukā pagrīdes komiksu žurnālu „Suns, desa un kaķis“ (vai nav lielisks nosaukums?). Viņa apšaubāmais zīmēšanas stils var arī kaitināt, bet ja iepatīkas, tad patīk līdz galam.
